Migraine & Headache Treatment At Hackney Podiatry & Health
Headaches are one of the most common reasons people come through our door, and one of the most disruptive things to live with. A bad week of them costs you work, plans and patience. In our manual therapies we will examine the causes behind yours, with treatment that aims to reduce their frequency instead of just managing them at their worst.
Migraine & Headache Treatment At Hackney Podiatry & Health
Tension-type headaches tend to build as a band of pressure across the forehead or at the base of the skull, often after long hours at a desk or a stretch of sustained stress. They are usually on both sides and they rarely stop you moving around.
Migraine is a separate condition. It is frequently one-sided, sometimes comes with visual disturbance, nausea or sensitivity to light and sound, and can remove a day or more from your week entirely. The distinction matters, because the two respond to different things.
Both types are closely tied to what is happening above the shoulders. Sustained desk posture, jaw clenching or grinding, and long-held muscular tension all feed into how often headaches arrive and how long they take to clear. This is the part we can work on directly, and for many people it is the part nobody has looked at.
How Acupuncture Is Used For Headaches
Acupuncture is one of the most common treatments that people book with us for headaches. NICE guidance on headaches in over 12s suggests a course of up to ten sessions over five to eight weeks can be considered for preventing chronic tension-type headache, and for migraine prevention where the usual preventive medications have not worked, are not tolerated or are unsuitable.
Dr Gavin Han and Kieran Howse both treat headache patients, using fine, single-use, medical-grade needles. A course rather than a single session is normally the sensible starting point, and they will review your progress throughout.
Our Massage Therapists can work on the neck, shoulders and upper back where tension collects, and TMJ Massage is a focused option where jaw clenching is part of the pattern. Osteopathy addresses restriction through the neck and upper spine.
Which combination suits you depends on the type of headache you are getting and what seems to set it off. Working that out is what your first appointment is for.
When To Speak To Your GP First
Headaches can be a sign of something that needs medical investigation, and red flags are your ‘first or worst’. If your headache is new, changing in pattern, unusually severe, or comes with symptoms such as weakness, confusion or a fever, please see your GP or seek urgent medical advice before booking with us.
You can book online at a time that suits you. If you would rather discuss our treatments and your history before choosing a pathway, book a ten minute exploratory call with Tracy first.

Tracy helped me not just once, but twice with a stubborn nail bed infection on my finger that had been ongoing for over two months. I had even been prescribed three courses of antibiotics by my GP and A&E, which unfortunately proved useless. When I spoke to Tracy, she immediately knew what the problem was and treated it on the spot.
Her professionalism, knowledge, and kindness were outstanding, and I’m incredibly grateful for her help. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anyone. Five stars all the way!

There is never a sense of being rushed! I have always found Amy to have been an excellent listener, offering advice and exercising great care. Very professional always, but also seemingly "informal" in the way she goes about things. I have always felt confident about the care I know I will receive.

Dr. Gavin Han is excellent! Been having tui na sessions with him for a few months now,
his treatments have been helping me a lot with a few serious health issues. I’ve been seeing many different holistic therapists in the last few years and must say he’s exceptionally good. Highly recommended.
