Expert Tui Na Massage At Hackney Podiatry & Health
Pronounced twee-nah, Tui Na massage is a form of bodywork that has been practiced for thousands of years. It is one of the pillars of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and can be used in combination with Acupuncture, or as a replacement for needles by using acupressure.
Working along the body’s meridians (energy channels) the Tui Na practitioner uses stretches, pressure points and joint rotations to balance the body’s vital energy (qi).
Using oscillating and pressure techniques that differ in force and speed, Tui Na massage is a strong and energetic bodywork experience. The name of this modality comes from the two words describing actions in the treatment: tui means ‘to push’ and na means ‘to grab or squeeze.’
During the treatment, the client can choose to remain fully clothed or remove items. Tui Na methods can include soft tissue massage, manipulation, acupressure in conjunction with herbal compresses, ointments, liniments, and heat. Clients may leave feeling both energised and refreshed.
Of the many reported benefits of this treatment, one is improved blood circulation thanks to its invigorating techniques. Many find it helpful for acute or chronic pain in the musculoskeletal system – with benefits including pain reduction, the treatment of headaches, stress, insomnia, constipation, and other disorders related to digestive, respiratory and reproductive systems.
Tui Na treatments may feel more vigorous than Western massage but are deeply therapeutic. This is a safe treatment that is generally well-tolerated, though please note it is not a gentle or relaxing massage. You may have some mild soreness after a session or experience slight bruising. It isn’t an advised modality for people who have fractures, vein inflammation, chronic back issues e.g. ankylosing spondylitis or open wounds.
