WHAT WE TREAT

Nail Trauma Treatment At Hackney Podiatry & Health

Nail trauma can occur following a toenail injury caused by impact, pressure or repetitive stress. This may result from stubbing a toe, dropping a heavy object on the foot, wearing tight or ill-fitting footwear, or participating in sports such as running, football or hiking. Trauma can affect the nail plate, nail bed or surrounding tissues, leading to bruising, bleeding beneath the nail, thickening, lifting or changes in colour and shape. In some cases, the nail may partially or completely detach as it grows out.

In everyday life, nail trauma can be painful and disruptive, making walking, exercise and wearing shoes uncomfortable. Damaged nails may catch, split or press into footwear, increasing irritation. Trauma also increases the risk of secondary problems, including infection, ingrown toenails and fungal nail infections, particularly if the nail becomes distorted or separated from the nail bed. Without appropriate care, long-term nail changes or repeated discomfort can develop.

At Hackney Podiatry & Health, our Podiatrists assess the extent of nail and soft tissue injury and identify any complications. Treatment may include professional nail reduction, removal of loose or damaged nail sections, pressure relief, dressings and guidance on footwear and activity modification. We monitor healing closely and provide early intervention if infection or fungal changes are suspected. Prompt podiatry care supports healthy regrowth, reduces pain and helps prevent ongoing or recurrent nail problems.
