WHAT WE TREAT

Osteoarthritis Treatment At Hackney Podiatry & Health

Osteoarthritis is a common joint condition that affects the smooth surfaces within a joint, often leading to pain, stiffness and reduced movement. Symptoms are frequently worse after periods of rest, such as first thing in the morning, and may increase with activity, causing swelling or aching. While some people experience ongoing discomfort, many notice symptoms that fluctuate depending on movement, load and activity levels.

In the foot and ankle, osteoarthritis commonly affects the ankle joint, the midfoot and the joints at the ball of the foot. It may develop gradually with age or appear years after a previous injury or trauma. Osteoarthritis can impact walking comfort, balance and confidence, limiting activity and footwear choices.

At Hackney Podiatry & Health, our Podiatrists assess your symptoms, joint movement and foot mechanics to determine whether osteoarthritis is contributing to your pain. Diagnosis can often be made clinically, but imaging such as X-ray, ultrasound or MRI can be arranged when needed.

Management focuses on reducing strain on the affected joint and improving its resilience. Treatment may include footwear advice, orthotics, activity modification and referral to your GP where medication is appropriate. As symptoms settle, we guide you through progressive exercises to strengthen the joint and support long-term function.

We also offer Osteopathic Treatment, which can include joint mobilisation, soft tissue work and manipulation, alongside Massage Therapy and Acupuncture to reduce pain, improve movement and support ongoing activity.
